15 Best Oregon Coast Towns For Families [2024]

When we decided to move from the East to West Coast a big draw was the Oregon Coast. After one vacation we were absolutely sold that the Oregon Coast was a place we wanted to take our kids regularly. I’d never seen a more beautiful coast line! There were Sitka forests ending abruptly on white sand beaches, dramatic rock formations for tide-pooling, and hidden beaches that make you feel like you are the only one left in the world. There is really no debate: the Oregon Coast is one of the most beautiful coastlines in the United States. If not the world! But with so many options it can be hard to figure which are the best Oregon Coast towns for families.

That’s where we come in! After numerous trips to the Oregon Coast and a ton of research, these are our favorite Oregon Coast towns for families. They have something to offer everyone. Regardless of if you are looking to get away from everyone or rather have a chic town for shopping after a day at the beach.

Know Before you Go

Weather

If you are looking for your typical lounge on the beach until you are so hot you have to hop in the water vacation, Oregon may not be for you. Always temperate, most Oregon Coast towns hit their peak temperatures in August and those are only in the high 60s°F. And the water remains frigid year around. You’ll see surfers out in wetsuits and if you plan on any serious swimming I would recommend bringing one. Even in summer months, I feel most comfortable on the beach in a sweatshirt. However, my kids were happy to run around in bathing suits and rash guards.

The Oregon Coast can also be quite windy. Plan accordingly, wind is lowest in the morning and after 6pm. We like to take a break from the beaches or take our chances at a more sheltered beach during the afternoon.
