What to Wear to Disney World in April [2024]

April is such a magical time to visit the Disney parks. You can visit the Garden Festival at Epcot, take part in special events to celebrate Easter, and run in a variety of Run Disney races.  Wondering what to wear at Disney World in April? The unpredictable nature of Florida weather in the spring requires some strategic packing. In this detailed guide, we’ll list everything you need to bring for a comfortable and memorable trip to Disney World. You are going to have the perfect Disney World trip!

Disney World Weather In April

April is a great time of year to visit Disney, in fact it might be the best time! We’ve visited Disney in a summer month (July), winter months (December, January), and for Halloween in October but our trips over spring have been some of my favorite.

The average high temperature for April at Disney World is 84°F and the average low temperature is 64°F. There are usually only 4 rainy days during the month of April. While it’s not hurricane season, weather conditions in Florida can be extreme any time of the year. Make sure you are ready for extreme heat, tons of rain, or cold weather. Just make sure to check the weather forecast a few days before you leave so you can ensure you have the right gear in your suitcase!

The last time we went to Disney World over spring break we had 90 degrees day. It was still the happiest place on earth…just also the sweatiest!

What To Bring To Disney World For Families

Double Stroller

Everyone needs to bring things like sunscreen and refillable water bottles, but families have a few extra items they need to pack for Disney World. Regardless of how old your kids are I recommend bringing a double stroller to serve as mobile storage. You can read all about my favorite strollers for Disney World. It is absolutely the easiest way to carry around extra layers, shoes, and snacks. All of my tips below assume you’ve got some extra storage space and you aren’t trying to carry everything in a backpack.

Pro tip: get a balloon from the grocery store to tie to your stroller so you can find it easily in a crowd. Just make sure its not a Disney themed balloon!

What To Wear To Disney World – For Any Month

Comfortable Shoes

Did you know the average person walks 9-10 miles a day at Disney World? All that walking means comfortable walking shoes are a must. Opt for supportive sneakers or breathable athletic shoes to keep your feet happy throughout your magical journey. Brands like Adidas, Nike, or Skechers offer stylish and comfortable options. Make sure to break yours shoes in before you get to the Disney parks. You don’t want to spend the day walking around with blisters!

Sunscreen and a Good Hat

You really can’t get way without wearing sunscreen in the Florida sun! You don’t want to spend the day strolling around your favorite theme park like Hollywood Studio, just to head home and realize you are bright red. Talk about an uncomfortable way to spend the rest of your trip! While most of the lines at Disney World are covered, you’ll be spending a lot of time walking from ride to ride.

You aren’t going to want to wear a hat on many of the rides, but it’s a great thing to have an easily packable one. I love a baseball cap with a velcro strap because you can attach it to your clothing or person if you forget to take it off before you hop on a ride.

First Aid Kit

Did you know Disney World has an urgent care? Unfortunately, I do! For truly serious injuries or illnesses you are going to head to the urgent care but for small booboos and blisters you’ll want to have a fully stocked first aid kit with you.

Snack Bag

Did you know you are allowed to bring food into Disney World? Bringing your own snacks are a great way to save money and stave off hangry toddlers. There are some restrictions, namely on the size and that the sides have to be soft shelled. We like to bring a shopping bag sized cooler and lay it flat in our suitcase. When we get to the hotel we pop in as many water bottles as we can to freeze them and then use those as ice packs during the day. As they defrost you can drink them!

Refillable Water Bottles

Staying hydrated is one of the most important things on a long day of adventuring at Disney World. Invest in a durable and refillable water bottle to save money and reduce waste. There are plenty of fun souvenirs and food to splurge on at Disney World, water bottles is not one of them!

Fanny Pack/Belt Bag

Fanny packs are a great option for keeping your hands free while you walk around Disney World. Once you starting wearing a fanny pack, you won’t go back! I wear mine all the time now, even just running errands at home. My favorites are dupes of some very expensive brands!

Rain Jacket Or Rain Poncho

What’s that saying? April showers bring May flowers. You are definitely going to want a rain jacket or a rain poncho for a trip to Disney World in April. It’s hard to have a good time if you are drenched!  While a rain jacket is great for a lighter drizzle, I recommend a rain poncho for heavier rain showers. A rain poncho is great because the longer length will help keep your legs dry as well.

Even if you have nothing but sunny days on your visit to Disney World, you are going to want a rain poncho for water rides. We loved Splash Mountain or Kali River Rapids and went on both of them multiple times. I was so happy to have a rain poncho to throw over my clothes!

Mickey Mouse Ears

No Disney outfit is complete without Mickey Mouse ears. Embrace the spirit of the parks with a pair of classic ears or opt for themed ones to match your outfit. My all time favorite is actually the goofy hat that my parents got me when I was a little kid. But Mickey Mouse ears are definitely a more stylish choice! I love these Mickey Mouse scrunchies! They are just as cute but won’t give you a headache if you are sensitive to headbands.

Change Of Clothes

Any time you leave the house with young children,  you are going to want a change of clothes! Disney World is no different. Between the water rides and long days, having a change of clothes is a great idea! I recommend leaving a change of clothes in the car because I view it as an emergency outfit. The last thing you want is to have to trek back to your hotel because of a potty accident or spill! We’ve never had to change clothes during one of our Disney trips but I am also really mindful of what we wear onto water rides and what my kids eat while we are at Disney.

What To Wear To Disney World In April

April can be a difficult time of year to pack for no matter what your destination! You are going to need quite a few layers to put on/take off for a comfortable trip to Disney World in April. I recommend you pick a neutral color palette so that you can mix and match outfits easily. Or even better, put together matching outfits with your favorite Disney characters!

Water Shoes

April in Florida is water ride season! With high temperatures in the 80s, you are definitely going to be enjoying Splash Mountain. You’ll see a lot of different strategies for staying dry on the water rides including taking your shoes off and hiding them under a poncho. That’s OK in a pinch but I would recommend bringing flip flops or water shoes for everyone in your family that you can change into and out of. These will also come in handy for rainy days when you you don’t want to be walking around in drenched tennis shoes. Does that mean you should just plan on wearing water shoes or flip flops all day long? Absolutely not! That is a recipe for blisters!

Bathing Suit

What to wear to Disney World in April? April marks the beginning of warmer weather, making it an ideal time to explore Disney’s water parks like Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon. Many of the resort pools near or on Disney property are heated and April is the perfect time to enjoy them.  Make sure you bring a bathing suit!

Light Jackets

April evenings can bring cooler temperatures, so packing a light jacket is advisable. Choose a versatile jacket made from breathable materials like cotton or a lightweight windbreaker to keep you warm without causing overheating.

T-Shirts

I recommend bringing tank tops and short sleeve shirts and using a light jacket to layer over them in case Orlando is unseasonably cool. I’d leave the long sleeves at home. Choose moisture-wicking fabrics like cotton or performance blends to keep you cool and comfortable in the Florida heat. Or opt for some adorable matching family t-shirts, the price on these can’t be beat!

Shorts

What to wear to Disney World in April? Biker shorts are a staple for a Disney World visit in April. I love performance blends that will ensure you are dry and comfortable while walking around Disney World. It isn’t my style but you’ll see tons of people wearing denim shorts. It might make for a more stylish outfit but I don’t think denim shorts are the most practical during warmer weather when you are spending long days outdoors. I also love a good tennis skirt as an alternative to shorts. Just as comfortable and practical but cute too!

Long Pants

Bring 1-2 pairs of long paints for a week long trip to Disney World. Average temperatures at night are in the 60s and you’ll probably want to throw on a pair of pants for nights spent at the Magic Kingdom watching the fireworks. Since you most likely won’t be wearing pants all day, I recommend packing one pair of performance material pants like a jogger or legging and packing one pair of jeans for all of those good meals at Disney Springs you are going to be having!

What to Wear to Disney World in April?

Breathable Fabrics

When selecting your Disney wardrobe, prioritize breathable fabrics such as cotton, linen, or moisture-wicking blends. These materials allow your skin to breathe, providing comfort in the Florida heat and will ensure you are comfortable through your vacation.

Sun Protection

Pack a hat, sunscreen, and lightweight layers so you can protect yourself from the sun. Even in April, you’ll experience high temperatures and sunny days. You do not want your only souvenir to be a sunburn!

Deciding what to wear to Disney World in April requires a bit of flexibility. You are definitely going to check the weather right before your trip. You can be assured you are going to have some warm and sunny days and that you want to be prepared for rain. Nothing ruins a day at Disney World faster than being cold and wet because you were unprepared. I hope you have a fantastic April Disney adventure filled with magic, laughter, and unforgettable memories!
