19 Best Luxury Resorts in the Pacific Northwest for Busy Families

Feeling overwhelmed trying to plan the perfect family vacation in the Pacific Northwest? It can be hard to pick the perfect hotel that will be a great fit for your family, offer the right amount of luxury, and be a good value for the spend. Don’t worry, I’ve done all of the research (and tested them myself) so you don’t have! We love the Pacific Northwest so much we decided to move here. But it all started with one amazing luxury resort stay! I can’t wait to share our favorite luxury resorts in the Pacific Northwest for families to make your next vacation a dream!

Idaho

Idaho is an amazing destination if you are looking for the perfect luxury resorts in the Pacific Northwest for families. With high end properties offering a mix of relaxing and outdoorsy activities, you will be able to unwind and disconnect.

Idaho Rocky Mountain Resort

A little over three hours from Boise, the Idaho Rocky Mountain Resort near Stanley, Idaho is the perfect luxury getaway for active families who want a turnkey vacation. This all-inclusive resort is every bit as luxurious as it is outdoorsy back-country fun.

Accommodations

The ranch provides a variety of restored cabins and lodge rooms that blend historic Western charm with modern comfort. Each includes a private bath—featuring Oakley stone showers or deep bathtubs—electric heat, and cozy fireplaces.

Amenities

Despite being an Idaho transplant, I am more than happy to admit that I’m ‘fake outdoorsy’. Give me an amazing mountain view, a good book, and a glass of wine and I am content. Which is why you’ll find me soaking in Idaho Rocky Mountain Resort’s heated natural spring pool instead of enjoying most of the properties other amenities. For more active families there is a fully stocked pond for fly fishing (catch and release only), yoga classes, a pickleball court, and mountain biking.

My favorite family friendly amenity? Three nights a week the staff organizes activities for children ages five and up on the front lawn so that exhausted parents can get a much needed break. All you have to do is sign up earlier in the day! While your little ones are having the time of their life on the front porch, you can head indoors to enjoy the five star dining experience that is included in your stay. That’s right, Idaho Rocky Mountain Resort doesn’t just offer five star luxury in an out of this world gorgeous setting, it is also all inclusive. And trust me when I say you aren’t going to want to skip a meal!

What to Do Nearby

All your meals are included, including a picnic lunch which is the perfect motivation to get outside and enjoy the nearby Sawtooth Mountains. Even if it is hard to want to leave the property! Some of our favorite things to do in Stanley, Idaho include spending the day at Redfish Lake. You can rent a boat from the Redfish Lodge or just enjoy splashing around on the rocky shore. If you are looking for more of a challenge, Fishhook Creek trail is one of our favorites in the area with kids.

Sun Valley Inn & Lodge

No list of the best luxury resorts in the Pacific Northwest for families would be complete without a mention of the Sun Valley Inn and Lodge in Ketchum, Idaho. While this luxury resort is best known for it’s world class ski slopes, I will let you in on a little secret: the best time to visit Sun Valley is any time you have a long weekend!

Accommodations

There are so many options for a luxury family stay when you stay at Sun Valley. You can rent on property condos either through the hotel’s website or AirBnB which will include access to all of the onsite amenities. Since condos are owned individually just be aware that the finishes and furnishing is highly variable. Because of how fantastic the property itself is we prefer to stay in one of the hotel rooms. Our favorite is the king suite in the Lodge which includes a separate living room with pull out couch that is perfect for families.

Amenities

So why do we like staying on property instead of in one of the condos? For the pools of course! What better way to start your day then to throw on a bathrobe and saunter down to the perfectly heated outdoor pool at the Sun Valley Lodge. I am not exaggerating when I tell you the pool, which is typically heated to 1054 degrees Fahrenheit is always the perfect temperature no matter what the season. It is honestly the bar I hold all other hotel pools too and I still haven’t found one that lives up to the standard the Sun Valley Inn & Lodge has set! And there isn’t just one pool, there are two! One for guests in the Inn and one in the Lodge. Guests in the condos still have access to the pools but pools are more fun when you can just roll downstairs and hop in!

There is also an arcade and bowling, an onsite movie theater, and multiple restaurants and shops in a quaint outdoor shopping plaza. Oh right, and there is skiing! Sun Valley is home to world class ski slopes and instructors making it the perfect place to introduce your kids to the sport. We are more sledding through the snow so we like to go riding in a horse drawn sleigh but we’ve all taken lessons at Sun Valley and loved how easy it was to navigate and how friendly the staff was.

What to Do Nearby

One of the best things about staying at Sun Valley is that you really don’t have to leave the property. Unfortunately you are going to want to! Ketchum is a charming mountain town that is going to lure you away from the resort. With tons of five star restaurants and luxury shops, you’ll find yourself having as much fun off property as you do on. We love to spend a lazy afternoon strolling Ketchum before grabbing an early dinner at our favorite restaurant, Rickshaw. More adventurous families will want to stretch their legs biking or hiking around Ketchum. One great way to do it is to make lunch reservations at the Roundhouse, one of the resort’s restaurants. You’ll need to take a gondola up to the restaurant and then you can enjoy gorgeous mountain views. When you are done eating, stretch your legs on the trail before hoping back on the gondola and heading back into town!

Shore Lodge

One of my favorite luxury resorts in the Pacific Northwest for families is the Shore Lodge. Located just two hours north of Boise in McCall, Idaho, the Shore Lodge is perfect for busy families looking for a quick weekend getaway complete with luxury suites, lake views, and outstanding heated pools.

Accommodations

The Shore Lodge is perfect for families who want a home away from home feeling. Even the smallest rooms include a separate living and sleeping area. Couches in the bedroom fold out to a queen size bed. Not every room is the same and some come with small dining spaces as well. Make sure to call the front desk to make requests prior to arriving.

The Shore Lodge is one of those times when splurging a little extra for a room with a view is absolutely worth it. Make sure to get a lake facing view and enjoy sunset on your balcony!

Amenities

For a small boutique hotel, the Shore Lodge goes above and beyond to find the types of amenities you’d expect a large 5-star luxury chain. Private movie theater you can book for your family for free? Check! Cookies delivered to your room each night? Check! A game room with ping pong and shuffle board? Check! There are also free bike rentals, paddle boards and kayaks to rent for a fee, and nightly s’mores to satisfy your families sweet tooth. If you are looking for something a bit healthier than cookies and s’mores, the Shore Lodge has two onsite restaurants, a steakhouse and family friendly grill serving up pizzas and burgers with a beautiful lake view.

But our favorite family friendly amenities are the heated pools and hot tubs and the lakeside beach. Looking for a little solo time? The Shore Lodge has one of the most gorgeous spas I’ve ever spent the day in.

What to Do Nearby

Honestly, if you are just coming to McCall for a quick weekend, I recommend you spend as much time at the Shore Lodge as possible to relax and enjoy all of the onsite amenities. We love to spend a day on the water either on the hotel’s paddle boards or on one of their speed boats. After that we like to unwind on the beach with some s’mores. If you absolutely insist on leaving the property, you can enjoy a stroll through scenic McCall or hit one of the trails in Ponderosa State Park.

Oregon

Allison Inn & Spa

Less than an hour away from Portland, the Allison Inn & Spa delivers on a luxurious getaway in the Pacific Northwest that is perfect for families. The views of the Willamette Valley can’t be beat!

Accommodations

While the Allison is geared towards adults seeking a relaxing getaway (*hint hint* book that adult’s only weekend!) the oversized rooms and suites make it perfect for families looking for a serene getaway. Our favorite room to stay in is the one bedroom suite which offers separation for kids and parents and includes a sofa bed in the living room.

Amenities

My favorite way to spend the day at the Allison is by starting the day in their Summer Garden Yoga class before checking into the spa for a relaxing massage and some down time in the steam room. While I’m relaxing, the kids are enjoying the indoor pool and hot tub.

What to Do Nearby

While the Oregon wine region is a big draw for adults, many wineries around Willamette Valley are family-friendly and offer great outdoor spaces where kids can roam. Some of our favorites to explore when staying at the Allison include the Sokol Blosser Winery which frequently has live music, Willamette Valley Vineyards with it’s kid friendly lemonade stand, and Alder Ridge Vineyard with it’s kid’s playarea.

Brasada Ranch

Brasada Ranch is located in the heart of Central Oregon, just about 2 hours (about 120 miles) from Portland and less than 20 minutes northeast of bend. Brasada Ranch stands out for its ability to provide a luxurious yet laid-back family experience. The spacious accommodations allow for families to enjoy time together without feeling crowded, and the variety of amenities ensure that there’s always something for everyone. This is the perfect escape for busy families who want to reconnect without the stress of having to plan every minute of a vacation! We’ve only been to Brasada Ranch once but I am dying to go back!

Accommodations

Brasada Ranch truly is one of the most luxurious Pacific Northwest resorts for families with a variety of large and well appointed accommodations to choose from. Families can stay in two-to-four bedroom homes for rent on property. You’ll love having the flexibility to cook your own meals or just enjoy a glass of wine on the wraparound porches. You can even bring along your dog so the whole family can enjoy the vacation! Leaving the kids at home? There are a variety of rooms and cabins that are perfect for a romantic couple’s retreat.

Amenities

When I think luxury family resort the first thing that comes to mind are properties where you will be just as happy staying on property the entire time as you will leaving to explore. Brasada Ranch is definitely somewhere you can come and unwind without needing to leave. From horseback riding to the heated pool, archery, s’mores, and the kids only hideout (yes adults can come to keep an eye on little ones), your kids will never get bored! Adults will enjoy the 18-hole championship golf course and spa.

What to Do Nearby

Hallmark Resort & Spa cannon Beach

One of my favorite luxury resorts in the Pacific Northwest for families is the Hallmark Resort and Spa. It is also one of my favorite Oregon Coast hotels! Located just under two hours away from Portland, this is the perfect resort for a quick weekend getaway but offers more than enough to entertain families for an entire week. We’ve been staying at the Hallmark for years and I’ve enjoyed every trip! It’s the perfect luxury family resort to use as your home base on the Oregon Coast.

Accommodations

The Hallmark Inn Cannon Beach offers a variety of comfortable, spacious accommodations that are ideal for families. Rooms range from standard suites to oceanfront rooms, providing ample space for families to spread out and unwind. Many of the suites are equipped with kitchenettes or full kitchens, allowing you to prepare meals at your convenience, which is a huge bonus for families traveling with young children.

Amenities

One of our favorite services the hotel offers, is a family s’mores setup. The hotel will help you with the bonfire and provide the s’mores and chairs. All you have to do is stroll down to the beach and enjoy a beautiful sunset! If your kids aren’t into sugar and beaches (what?!), there is also a fantastic indoor heated pool. It’s perfect for overcast days or if you just need some unwinding time.

What to Do Nearby

No stay at the Hallmark would be complete without enjoying Cannon Beach and the famed Haystack Rock. Our favorite way to enjoy the beach is during one of the hotel’s s’mores nights. But you can’t miss visiting Haystack at low tide to see the tide pools. The Oregon Coast is full of tide pool gems and great beaches! Another great option for families is hiking in nearby Ecola State Park. The views are seriously out of this world!

Headlands Coastal Lodge & Spa

Just under two hours away from Portland lies the perfect family escape, the Headlands Coastal Lodge & Spa, in Pacific City, Oregon.

Accommodations

Rooms feature a rustic yet modern aesthetic, with large windows framing breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean. Guests can choose from a variety of room options, including oceanfront suites, cozy lodge rooms, and private cottages. Each space comes equipped with high-end amenities like gas fireplaces, luxurious bedding, and premium bath products, ensuring a restful stay. Our favorite family friendly accommodations are the two-and-three bedroom cottages. Some cottages are even pet friendly if you want to bring fido!

Amenities

Want to know the most unique amenity I’ve ever encountered at a luxury hotel? It has to be the adventure coaches at the Headlands Coastal Lodge & Spa. The coaches will help you craft your perfect family adventure on the Oregon Coast. Talk about a stress free way to plan a vacation! If adventure isn’t your speed, you can enjoy the luxury onsite spa, fitness center, or pool. And since the property is located directly on the beach, a scenic stroll is always available to you.

What to Do Nearby

The Cape Kiwanda State Natural Area and eponymous hike is one of the most iconic things to do during your stay at the Headlands Coastal Lodge & Spa. This 1.5 mile moderate hike offers breathtaking views and more than one Instagram photo opp.

Sunriver Resort

Located 25 minutes from Bend and about 4 hours from Portland, is the epitome of a family friendly luxury resort, the Sunriver Resort.

Accommodations

Accommodations at Sunriver Resort are diverse, ranging from cozy lodge rooms to expansive vacation homes, offering plenty of space for families. Families will likely opt for the vacation homes which you can book directly through Sunriver or AirBnB. However, the lodge offers great suites which include kitchenettes and can accommodate up to 6 people. Guests who stay in vacation homes will have access to all of the same great amenities as guests who stay at the lodge so you can’t go wrong either way!

Amenities

What can’t you do at Sunriver? This is another one of those resorts where you can check in and check out because the resort has everything your family is going to need. Horseback riding, fly-fishing, canyoning, and heli-adventures including heli-hiking to glaciers—offering unforgettable “firsts” for many guests.
