Which means we’ve stayed at a lot of resorts on the Oregon Coast!

The Allred

The newly renovated Allred in Newport, Oregon is sure to win over many fans with its stylish design and breathtaking ocean views. This is definitely one of the best family resorts on the Oregon coast!

Accommodations

Families will appreciate the Allred’s versatile room options, including suites with sofa beds, multi-bedroom layouts, and accessible rooms. Our personal favorite is the one bedroom bunk bed suite. For starters, what kid doesn’t love a bunk bed setup? It takes the fun up a notch! Parents will love how spacious the suite is. At 745 square feet this is one of the largest suites at the Allred. While kids enjoy the bunk beds (and sofa bed!), parents will love the separate bedroom with a king size bed. While I love my kids, I also really love not having to share a hotel room with them. Everyone sleeps better!

Amenities

Kids will appreciate the indoor pool for days when the Oregon Coast feels just a little too cold and windy, while parents will enjoy the enjoy sauna. Did you know sitting in a sauna daily can extend your life expectancy? Makes it so easy to claim I’m vacationing for my health! Everything is newly remodeled which is another giant plus!

What to Do Nearby

Located directly across from the ocean with direct beach access, the Allred is a stone’s throw from historic Nye Beach, a charming stretch perfect for family beach walks, exploring tide pools, or browsing quirky shops and local eateries. Iconic local landmarks like the Yaquina Head Lighthouse and Yaquina Bay are within easy reach, offering educational and picturesque outings for all ages. No trip to Newport would be complete without a stop to the Oregon Coast Aquarium and Rogue Brewery. While a brewery might not sound like its the most kid friendly, I assure you it is! Our tour used a train to showcase the brewery and my kids thought it was absolutely fantasitc!

Hallmark Resort & Spa

If you are researching a family vacation to the Oregon Coast then there is a good chance that you’ve come across Cannon Beach. This coastal town has it all: a charming main street, a famous beach, world class hiking, and some great family friendly resorts. One of our favorites is the Hallmark Resort & Spa. It might not just be one of the best family resorts on the Oregon coast, but the absolute best!

Accommodations

In addition to your traditional queen and king size bedrooms, the Hallmark Resort Cannon Beach offers a variety of suites that are perfect even for large families. And don’t forget that every room comes with a great view!

One Bedroom Suite

Spread out in a one bedroom suite which includes a king sized bed and a queen sized murphy bed in the living room/kitchen area. This room is perfect for smaller families who need a little separation at bed time. The kitchen suite includes a full sized refrigerator and oven in case you want to prepare your own meals, or just store leftovers from one of the great restaurants in town.

Two Bedroom Suite

If 530 sqft doesn’t sound like enough then upgrade to the two bedroom suite. These rooms include a king sized bed, queen size bed, and queen size murphy bed. The two bedroom suite can accommodate up to 6 guests so it is perfect for larger families!

Room Tip

Make sure to splurge for an ocean view room. Especially if you are traveling with young children and might end up in your hotel room for early bedtimes or naps, you are going to want the gorgeous view of the ocean.

Amenities

The Hallmark Resort has a large indoor pool and hot tub that will keep your little ones happy all day long. Given the Oregon Coast’s moody weather, it’s fantastic to have such a fun, indoor activity that you can enjoy when it’s rainy, windy, or both! On beautiful days, it’s fun to jump between the beach and the pool to wear kids out.

Warning: Like everything in Oregon, I found the hotel pool to be a touch too cold to enjoy. But that has never stopped my kids or husband from hopping in! Thankfully, the hot tub is located adjacent to the pool so you can easily parent and keep warm.

Beachside S’mores

The staff at the Hallmark Resort Cannon Beach will set up chairs and a bonfire and provide all the trappings for s’mores. Watching the sunset on the beach while eating s’mores and looking at Haystack Rock really is the perfect end to everyday! If you are going to stay at the Hallmark Resort you need to plan on doing this at least once.

Other Snacks

If s’mores aren’t your thing enjoy free popcorn and cookies during your stay! What a cute way to spend an evening, you can plan a movie night in your hotel room and enjoy some popcorn!

For Mom and Dad

The Hallmark Resort offers a fitness center, lovely spa, and sauna all for use during your stay. I personally love that the sauna is separate from the hotel so you can indulge in it everyday! Bike cruisers and helmets are also available for loan from the hotel but make sure you rent or bring your own for the kids.

What to Do Nearby

Cannon Beach truly is one of the most family friendly destinations on the Oregon Coast! From historic sweets shops to stunning scenery, Cannon Beach really offers something for everyone.

Grab a Sweet Treat

In town, you’ll have your pick of great restaurants and everyone’s favorite Bruce’s Candy Kitchen. We always stop by Suzy’s Scoops when we are in town for ice cream too. Ice cream and beach vacations just go hand in hand!

Go To a Tide Pool

No trip to the Oregon Coast would be complete without a visit to a tide pool. Luckily for you, the Hallmark Resort Cannon Beach is located right in front of Haystack Rock and it’s tidepools. During low tide you can walk out to the rock and find all kinds of sea creatures including starfish, sea anemones, and sea urchins. You might even spot the puffins that make their home on Haystack Rock. Kids will love exploring!

Hit the Trails

If you are looking for a more adventurous home-base, Cannon Beach is a great place for that too. Ecola State Park is a quick 6 minute drive from the city center and has gorgeous views of the windswept coast. The Indian Beach Trail is a fan favorite at just under 4 miles and moderately-challenging. Families looking to take it a little easier will prefer the half-mile Tillamook Lighthouse Loop.

Headlands Coastal Lodge

I first heard about the Headlands Coastal Lodge from a friend and I am so grateful she tipped me off to one of the best family resorts on the Oregon Coast. Located just two hours from Portland, the Headlands Coastal Lodge is perfect for families looking for that extra dose of luxury!

Accommodations

Every guest room and cottage at Headlands Coastal Lodge & Spa boasts spectacular ocean views, private balconies or terraces, gas fireplaces, and luxe details like Frette bedding, plush robes, and massive soaking tubs. The two-to-three bedroom cottages are perfect for families traveling with little ones and multigenerational trips. The cottages truly feel like a home away from home and are perfect if you want to spend cozy nights relaxing in front of the fire or have the ability to make full meals for your children. Ocean views making cooking so much more fun!

Amenities

I never get sick of talking about the perks of staying at the Headlands Coastal Lodge. They have one of the coolest amenities I’ve ever come across, an adventure coach! The adventure coaches are experts on the Oregon Coast and will happily help you plan your perfect vacation down to the smallest detail. They can help you craft custom outings but also recommend group outings that are included in your stay at the Headlands like late night bonfires and tidepooling. A stay at the Headlands is definitely all about enjoying the best the Oregon coast has to offer! And the staff at the Headlands makes that so easy for families to do.

What to Do Nearby

Situated at the edge of Cape Kiwanda State Natural Area, the lodge offers immediate access to the expansive beach and a towering sand dune—perfect for tuckering little kids out!

Overleaf Lodge

The Oregon Coast is massive so every time we plan a vacation there I tell myself we should try somewhere new. Despite that, about every other time we end up at the Overleaf Lodge. I think that is because it is truly one of the best family resorts on the Oregon Coast! And because Yachats is one of the most magical locations on the Oregon Coast. It is the perfect homebase for tidepooling and hunting out secret beaches.

Accommodations

The Cottages

What drew us to the Overleaf Lodge initially was the amazing onsite cottages. They vary in size and are perfect for larger families or traveling with extended family. We made it a tradition to take my in-laws there and we’ve tried out all of the larger cottages at this point! The cottages are on the Overleaf’s property and managed by the resort but each cottage is unique. Some are a bit more polished than others and I recommend the A ‘Lul’ Quoy cottage for more discerning guests. It’s truly charming! Skookum, while larger and fantastic, is a bit more on the rugged side.

The cottages are in high demand due to their reasonable price and large space so make sure you book them in advance. I’d recommend 9-12 months to ensure you get the cottage of your choice.

Note that guests who stay in the cottages can’t take advantage of all of the resorts offerings, like the breakfast included for guests staying in the main hotel.

The Hotel

If you are looking for a traditional hotel room, you are in luck! These are perfect for adult’s only getaways and small families (4 and under). I recommend the Whale Watcher rooms. My favorite configuration for families is the Queen/Queen with a picture window. You’ll have amazing sunset views from your room. Request room 306 for the highest floor available and the best view.

Amenities

Location, Location, Location

Our favorite amenity is the walking path right in front of the resort on the coast. The perfect way to wake up each morning is with a leisurely stroll along the rugged coast line. Kids will love the rocks overlooking the water that are perfect for climbing and exploring.

Picnics Made Easy

The guest shop at the Overleaf Lodge is so much fun. We always leave with more than we need, including a few great Yachats t-shirts. One of my favorite purchases is the pre-made picnics that the Overleaf Lodge and Spa offers to guests on the go. The picnics are perfect for a busy day hiking at Cape Perpetua.

For Mom and Dad

The Overleaf Lodge and Spa boasts a world class, you guessed it, SPA! The Overleaf Spa is located on the third floor so you have fantastic views from the oceanview soaking tubs. Guests of the hotel can use the soaking tubs, sauna, and steam rooms without a spa appointment and free of charge. Guests who book one of the cottages can book a spa service or a day pass to enjoy the spa. And I promise, you are going to want to spend some time relaxing at the spa!

Surfsand Resort

Another Cannon Beach resort on the best family resorts on the Oregon Coast list?! You betcha! Cannon Beach is your quintessential beach town and if you are planning a first time visit to the Oregon Coast then I highly recommend you start with a stay in Cannon Beach. But it is so great you are going to want to come back again and that means you need multiple family friendly resorts!

Accommodations

It’s the little things that matter when picking a resort for your family vacation and the Surfsand knows that! One of the best in room features for kids is the Starlight Projector on the nightstand. Kids will love ‘looking at the stars’ as they fall asleep! Rooms at the Surfsand are more traditional hotel style than home-away-from-home so we like to splurge on the executive suite. It features a king bed and pull out sofa and gorgeous views of the ocean.

Amenities

The indoor pool and hot tub are a huge hit with kids staying at the Surfsand. And it might sound counterintuitive but I love that there are adult only swim times. That means outside of those hours kids are expected to be there and all the crazy splashing and pandemonium is totally acceptable! We’ve had some hotels where kids having fun was definitely frowned upon and I promise you the Surfsand is not that place! Other great perks include the free bike rentals, a kite concierge, s’mores setup on the beach, and the DVD library for relaxing evenings in. If you are there on Saturdays kids will love the ice cream social.

My personal favorite amenity is the sand dollar hunt. Each day a glass sand dollar is hidden somewhere on the property by 6am. I have yet to find the sand dollar and that just means we have to keep coming back! The hunt is a blast for kids and ultra competitive adults.
