Brasada Ranch with Kids: An Exhausted Mom’s Review
Oh hey fellow busy moms—ever dreamed of a family getaway where you don’t have to over plan, drive all over, or coordinate 47 activities just to keep the kids happy?! That’s where Brasada Ranch swoops in like the vacation superhero we didn’t know we needed. Somewhere around booking our 900th week of summer camp last year, I gave up and booked our family a week at Brasada Ranch instead. Read on to hear all about our experience staying at Brasada Ranch with kids. And why you should too!

How to Get to Brasada Ranch
Brasada Ranch sits quietly in Powell Butte, about 20–30 minutes northeast of Bend, Oregon—far enough to feel blissfully remote, but close enough if you want to pop into town.
Spread across a sweeping 1,800 acres, including 900 acres of preserved open space, it’s the kind of place where you wake up to endless sagebrush fields, dramatic Cascade Mountain views, and sunsets that make your heart pause.
If you are looking for an excuse to unplug from work and relax with your kids, a trip to Brasada Ranch is it!
Best Time of Year to Visit Brasada Ranch with Kids
If you’re juggling deadlines, school pickup schedules, and the occasional hair appointment, you’ll love how year around Brasada Ranch really is.
Visit Brasada Ranch with kids in…
- Fall for warm days, endless sunshine, and less crowds. It will still be warm enough to enjoy the resort’s full offerings like the outdoor pools, lazy rivers, trails, and horsebackriding.
- Winter if you really want to beat the crowds and love the idea of cozying up in your own cottage. There is skiing and showshoeing nearby but other amenities may be closed for the off season. Think less restaurants and shorter amenity hours.
- Late Spring (May) will bring warmer temperatures but still have smaller crowds as most kids are still in school. You’ll still deal with restaurant closures and reduced hours but if you book it last minute you can time your trip with great weather and low prices which should more than make up for any inconvenince!
- Summer is when Brasada Ranch with kids really shines. There is just so much to do on property that this really becomes the perfect all-in-one vacation. Bring on the poolside vibes!
While we visited Brasada Ranch with kids in the summer because of school schedules, I am dying to go back in the fall for a long weekend and gorgeous weather.
Staying at Brasada Ranch with Kids
Brasada Ranch offers something for every kind of family:
- Two‑bedroom cabins (65 total): The go-to for families—one bedroom features a king bed and a spa-like bath with a soaking tub, the other a king bed, small bathroom, coffee station, and desk. Full kitchen, living area, fireplace, furnished deck, and optional hot tub (highly, highly recommended) means space and flexibility, so your bedtime isn’t your kid’s bedtime too.
- Ranch House guest rooms and suites: Closer to the main lodge—great if you favor convenience, daily maid service, or a more traditional hotel vibe.
- Cascade Bungalows: Adults-only, sleek, modern, private hot tubs, and a quiet haven near the adults-only pool. If you go rogue and decide to leave the kids at home, these are the accommodations for you!

Those two‑bedroom cabins deliver comfort, space, and that crucial “second room for the kid” to buy you an extra hour of kid-free evening time. It’s perfect if you have to bring your laptop and do a little work on vacation (please tell me I’m not the only one) or you just want some separation so you can have adult time after bedtime. Not all cabins have hot tubs—so double-check when booking. Also, cabins are peaceful and slightly off the main area: perfect for extended family lounging, but note that there’s a small uphill walk back from the heart of the resort—could be a consideration if you’re pushing a stroller or dragging tantruming toddlers.
Top 10 Activities at Brasada Ranch for Kids
Here’s your ready‑made list—no planning, just pick and go:
- Athletic Center & Pools – Lazy river, waterslide, waterfall splash pad, indoor & toddler pools. Rinse and repeat on a hot summer day! And the poolside drink service means exhausted parents are happy to.
- The Hideout – Indoor kids’ play area with climbing wall, Xbox, and toys is so cool. My kids loved telling me no adults allowed!
- Pony / Trail Rides – Scenic equestrian adventures across the property. A high-value splurge for kids who love animals. Younger kids enjoy staff led pony rides while older children can head out on the trail.
- Hiking & Biking Trails – Right on property with gorgeous high‑desert views. Bring your own gear or rent from the resort.
- Golf – Brasada Canyons – A forgiving, scenic 18‑hole resort course that’s fun for new golfers—ok, so this is more for the adults but I know a ton of kids getting into gold this days!
- Spa Brasada – Optional bonus for moms craving a serious recharge—massage, facials, and a quiet retreat. Feeling generous? Book some spa time for you and your mini.
- Fitness & Wellness Classes – Yoga, barre, aquafit, and more—if you need a sweat or mindful break without leaving the resort.
- Stargazing / Ranch Experiences – Central Oregon nights are as peaceful as they are starry. Combine with a ranch know-how or just sip a drink under the sky from your hot top.
- Nearby Day Trips – Want to venture out? Ask the concierge about volcano hikes, rafting, caving, skiing, or forest treks in the Deschutes National Forest/
- Casual Resort Activities – Axe throwing, indoor golf, tennis, pickleball—whatever suits your family! There is no way I’m giving my kids an axe to throw but they LOVE playing pickleball and cracking jokes about how old I am.

5 Places to Eat at or Around Brasada Ranch with Kids
Here’s the essential restaurant lineup—mom-tested, kid-approved:
- Ranch House – The reliable lunchtime/dinner go-to in the main Lodge. Casual, kid-friendly, with classics like mac ’n’ cheese (favorites for little ones) and adult staples like steak or BBQ ribs—even the potatoes are award-worthy. This is my absolute favorite place to eat at Brasada Ranch with kids! The wait staff is so friendly even if your toddler asks if their food is ready before the table is done ordering (not that we’ve done that or anything!).
- Wild Rye (formerly Range Restaurant & Bar) – Elevated but still relaxed fine-dining experience. Great cocktails, creative plates like brie with prosciutto and wedge salad with Brasada sauce, and homemade s’mores at the fire pit—magical for kids and parents!
- Sundance Bar & Grill – Fun poolside spot near the Athletic Center. Perfect for chicken strips, hummus plates, and easy bites between slide runs.
- General Store – Coffee, pastries, and grocery basics—your grab-and-go savior. Forgot toothpaste? Need a snack? This quaint shop has you covered.
- Off-Resort Options in Bend – Quick drive brings you to food trucks, breweries, and Bend’s more extensive dining scene. Good for planned nights off-property—just remember that Uber/Lyft can be unreliable here, so rent a car or bring your own.
Note: The remoteness is part of the charm, but means fewer “spontaneous” errands or last-minute restaurant hops—so plan a bit ahead for grocery runs or restaurant reservations, especially midweek or during shoulder seasons. Luckily for you, if you don’t want to leave Brasada Ranch you absolutely do not have to!

Why Brasada Ranch with Kids is the Perfect Getaway for Busy Families
Let’s get real. As a busy mom, your time is friction: emails to clear before bedtime, school science projects, meal preps, and fleeting weekends when “family vacation” barely gets off the I‑need-a-vacation ground. Brasada Ranch fixes this:
- Everything. Is. There. Food, pools (indoor/outdoor), lazy river, fitness center, spa, equestrian activities, trail rides, stargazing, games, playgrounds, fitness classes. All under one resort roof! Hellllllllo, relazation!
- Complimentary kids’ programming: Check with the front desk about complimentary kids activities during your stay, little things like s’mores or a crafting hour add so much magic and take all the pressure off exhausted parents.
- Added experiences (for a fee): Pony rides, trail rides, spa treatments, golf, and more—great for variety if you want a splurge, but not mandatory.
- Peaceful space: Wide-open views, distant cabins, quiet evenings—and the retreat feel that exhausted moms need.
- Flexibility to explore: Want to head into Bend for dinner, groceries, or museum time? Easy. You’re only about 25–30 minutes away! And Bend is totally worth exploring. Fun fact, we almost considered moving to Bend but I was too worried about finding jobs there. Fast-forward a year and some crazy world events and my husband and I both work remote. If only I’d had a crystal ball!
In short: you can really unplug. And if you want to mix things up—you’ve got options.
One or Two Minor Complaints about Brasada Ranch with Kids
Because no place is perfect.
Dining & Grocery Planning – The General Store is lovely but limited. You’ll likely need to stock up before arrival—especially if you’re cooking in the cabin or have picky eaters.
Limited Activity Hours or Midweek Scheduling – Some activities (like the slide or spa) may have more restricted hours, especially in off-peak seasons or weekdays. Best to check ahead and book early.
Other than these small realities, most guests report service that’s warm, helpful, and eager to make your stay seamless.
Is Brasada Ranch with kids worth it?
Yes—especially if you’re a working mom with limited brain bandwidth but big hopes for quality family time.
Why it works:
- Low-effort, high-return: You can stay put and have everything you need—dining, pools, space, views—with minimal effort and planning
- Flexible energy levels: Go full-on resort mode, sneak in spa time, grab activities nearby, or go for all out adventure and hit the trails, the water slide, and Bend!
- Kid happiness, parent sanity: Slides, pony rides, play spaces, s’mores—yes, the kids will be joyous. And we all know the saying really should have been happy kids, happy parents!
Just book the right cabin, check activity hours ahead of time, pack a few groceries (or plan a grocery run en route), and let Brasada Ranch become your destination and your downtime.
Moms, you deserve a getaway that doesn’t require a second vacation to recoup from the stress of prepping the trip. Brasada Ranch offers that perfect balance: elegant, flexible, unplugged, but far from remote.
Whether you stay in your cozy cabin all week, float in the lazy river at sunrise, watch the sunset with a glass of wine on your deck, or let the kids roam free while you sit quietly with a book—it’s family freedom with all the perks.
