Moar Gut Review: A Luxury Family Escape in the Austrian Alps
Ever heard the saying a vacation with kids is really just parenting in a different location? Familien Natur Resort Moar Gut offers the kind of vacation that reminds parents why we love to travel in the first place. From the inclusive kids-club to the little touches spread throughout the resort that truly make Moar Gut a place for parents to unwind, you won’t be tempted to think of a visit to Moar Gut as just another place to parent.
This Moar Gut review is for parents who love adventurous travel — hiking trails instead of shopping malls, alpine air instead of city smog — but who also refuse to compromise on comfort. If you’ve ever found yourself Googling “luxury family hotels that aren’t just for kids,” Moar Gut may be the answer you didn’t know existed.
Tucked into Austria’s picture-perfect Grossarl Valley, surrounded by the kind of mountain views that make you rethink your life priorities, Moar Gut redefines what it means to be a family resort. Yes, it’s full of laughter, strollers, and toddler gear. But it’s also filled with design details that would make any adult swoon — a Scandi-meets-Alpine aesthetic, a serene spa with sweeping glass walls, and cuisine that feels more Michelin-inspired than cafeteria-style.
For five days, our family immersed ourselves in everything Moar Gut had to offer: hiking, biking, rock climbing, archery, spa afternoons, cake hours (yes, that’s a thing), and even adopting a small animal from the on-site farm. This Moar Gut review isn’t just a list of amenities — it’s a love letter to the rarest kind of luxury: stress free family time together.

What Is a Kinderhotel — and Why It’s a Game-Changer for Parents
Before arriving, I thought “Kinderhotel” simply meant a hotel that welcomes children. I couldn’t have been more wrong. In Austria, Germany, and a few other European countries, Kinderhotels are a specific, certified category of family-focused accommodations built entirely around the needs of families traveling with kids — from infants to teens.
Think of a Kinderhotel as the European equivalent of a five-star, all-inclusive family retreat, but elevated — quieter, more design-driven, and deeply attuned to what parents actually need to relax.
What sets them apart?
- Included Childcare: Not a babysitter service, but full-day, structured, professional childcare with themed programs, outdoor adventures, and creative play.
- Family-First Design: Rooms and suites are laid out with privacy and connection in mind — not just cribs crammed beside the bed and no worrying about connecting rooms.
- Kid-Safe Everything: From high-end playgrounds to organic food options, every detail is created with safety, health, and joy in mind.
- Luxury for Parents Too: While the kids are crafting or feeding animals, parents can slip into the sauna, enjoy a mountain-view massage, or simply read by the infinity pool.
For American travelers, Kinderhotels like Moar Gut can feel revolutionary. In the U.S., luxury family resorts tend to skew one way or the other — either kid-obsessed chaos with cartoon mascots or adults-only serenity that makes parents feel like interlopers. Moar Gut manages the impossible balance: it’s kid-heaven and parent-paradise, without compromise.
This Moar Gut review aims to show you exactly how they do it — and why it’s worth the splurge, even if it’s a once-in-a-lifetime stay.

Where Moar Gut Is Located & How to Get There
Nestled in the Grossarl Valley in the Austrian state of Salzburg, Familien Natur Resort Moar Gut feels like something out of a storybook — meadows full of wildflowers, crisp alpine air, and snow-dusted peaks even in midsummer. The hotel sits just outside the village of Grossarl, about 920 meters above sea level, and is surrounded by pristine hiking and biking trails.
Closest Major Cities
Moar Gut’s location makes it surprisingly accessible from several major European cities, even though it feels worlds away once you arrive. Here’s how it breaks down:
- From Salzburg (Austria):
The easiest and most direct route. Moar Gut is about 1 hour 15 minutes by car (75 km). You can fly into Salzburg Airport (SZG), rent a car, or arrange a hotel transfer. The hotel offers private Mercedes vans or luxury minibuses for an additional fee — perfect for families who’d rather skip the car rental hassle. - From Munich (Germany):
Expect a 2.5 to 3-hour drive (approximately 225 km). Munich International Airport (MUC) offers frequent flights from the U.S. and worldwide. Many families choose to rent a car here to enjoy the scenic drive through Bavaria and into Austria, passing charming alpine villages. - From Innsbruck (Austria):
Around 3 hours by car (200 km). This route winds through the heart of the Alps — breathtaking, but more mountainous and slower. Innsbruck Airport (INN) is smaller, with limited international connections. - From Venice (Italy):
The longest option, about 4.5 hours by car (320 km). While it’s not the most direct route, it’s absolutely spectacular — the drive takes you through the Dolomites and into Austria’s alpine heartland.
If you prefer not to drive, Moar Gut can coordinate transfers from Salzburg, Munich, or Innsbruck, with baby seats, booster options, and space for luggage. The concierge team handles it seamlessly — one of the many details that make traveling with children feel surprisingly effortless.
Getting there truly feels like the moment your vacation begins. As you approach the valley, the roads narrow, the air cools, and you’ll likely spot a few grazing cows and wild deer before the modern timber architecture of Moar Gut comes into view.
Our experience: we opted to take a train from Munich to Salzburg so we could enjoy a half day in the city before heading onto Moar Gut. A word of caution if that sounds like something that would interest you: the internet assured me that luggage lockers at the Salzburg train station were plentiful and we would easily be able to stow our luggage before exploring the city. It probably wouldn’t surprise you to learn that is absolutely not the case. If you need to stow luggage, make sure you are on one of the first arriving trains in the morning and have a backup plan. We ended up pulling our luggage to a large nearby park and my husband spent the day people watching from a bench while the kids and I took in Salzburg. The car ride from Salzburg to Moar Gut on the other hand was absolutely seamless! The car arrived early and was equipped with the perfect car seats for my kids – something I had forgotten to even ask about.

Room Accommodations: Thoughtful Design Meets Family Functionality
Here’s where this Moar Gut review turns into a love letter to thoughtful hotel design. The rooms at Moar Gut aren’t just beautiful — they’re brilliantly practical.
Aesthetic Meets Alpine Warmth
Each of the 36 suites and chalets feels like a private alpine home. Think natural wood, wool textiles, oversized windows, and muted tones that let the mountains take center stage. The overall feeling is serene and spacious — a far cry from the cramped “family rooms” many resorts offer.
We stayed in one of the Family Suites, which easily accommodated our family of four. The suite had two separate sleeping areas — a main bedroom for adults and a fully equipped kids’ room with bunk beds and playful details. For parents who crave privacy (and uninterrupted Netflix time), this setup is priceless. And it was done so well! The kids’ room was the size of an extra large walk in closet but came with two beds + an upper bunk, two closets, air conditioning/heating, and a window. The smaller sized allowed for a massive main bedroom complete with a balcony overlooking the mountains and a small dining table. The long hallway that attached the main bedroom to a luxurious bathroom was lined with closets making it incredibly easy to stow all of our clothes and luggage out of the way.
Kid Rooms Designed by People Who Actually Have Kids
One of Moar Gut’s standout features is that every family suite includes a separate kid zone — not just an extra bed. The children’s rooms vary by suite type but often feature:
- Bunk beds or loft-style beds with safety rails and soft lighting.
- Mini play nooks or themed decor — some have forest murals, others tiny climbing walls or reading corners.
- Child-friendly bedding made from organic cotton, hypoallergenic pillows, and cozy blankets kids actually want to sleep in.
- Night lights and blackout shades, so bedtime doesn’t turn into a negotiation.
For our 4-year-old, the cozy bunk setup felt like an adventure, while our 10-year-old loved the autonomy of “her own room.” As a parent, I appreciated that the kids’ space was connected yet separate — close enough for peace of mind but private enough for real rest.
Luxury Details Parents Will Notice
Every suite includes a balcony or terrace with mountain views, spacious bathrooms with soaking tubs (perfect for post-hike bubble baths), and thoughtful touches like diaper pails, child stools, and baby monitors — items that are rarely standard in even the nicest family hotels.
Some of the larger chalets and penthouses can accommodate up to 6 or 7 people, making them ideal for multi-generational trips or families with teens. The layouts are intuitive, with open living areas that feel more like a home than a hotel.
And let’s talk about storage — a family travel MVP that rarely gets enough credit. Moar Gut’s rooms have ample closet space, hidden cubbies for strollers, and even designated drying areas for ski or hiking gear. These small touches make a huge difference when traveling with kids who somehow generate twice their body weight in laundry.
Sleep Quality Worth the Splurge
The beds were among the most comfortable I’ve ever experienced in a family hotel — firm but plush, dressed in crisp linens and soft duvets. Even after long days of hiking and pool play, I woke up refreshed. Our kids slept soundly every night, which might be the ultimate luxury of all.
If you’re comparing Kinderhotels, note this: Moar Gut’s rooms balance sophistication and functionality better than almost anywhere else. This isn’t a resort where “family-friendly” means bright plastic furniture or cartoon wallpaper. It’s refined, natural, and deeply restful — the kind of space you’ll miss when you check out.

Onsite Amenities: A Resort Built Around Joy and Freedom
One of the joys of writing this Moar Gut review is that Moar Gut’s amenities aren’t just impressive — they’re intentional. Everything on the property is designed to let kids explore safely while giving parents space to breathe.
When you first walk through the main lodge and step onto the terrace overlooking the valley, you instantly understand the resort’s philosophy: connection to nature, connection to family, connection to self.
The Pools: Tranquility for Parents, Excitement for Kids
Moar Gut’s pool complex could easily belong in a five-star adult wellness retreat, yet it’s wonderfully accessible to children. There are multiple pools, each serving a distinct purpose:
- The Main Indoor Pool is a light-filled sanctuary surrounded by panoramic glass walls. Heated to the perfect family-friendly temperature, it allows year-round swimming even when snow caps the nearby peaks. The pool is spacious enough for both kids splashing and parents floating in peace.
- The Outdoor Infinity Pool is pure Alpine drama — its edge seems to melt into the mountains beyond. Floating here at sunset, with the peaks turning pink and gold, was one of those travel moments I’ll remember forever.
- Toddler Splash Area – adjacent to the main pool, with shallow water, gentle slides, and soft flooring. The hotel provides floaties and pool toys, so you can leave yours at home.
- Outdoor Natural Lake is made for an Instagram photo shoot and a polar plunge. If you prefer your swims on the colder side or are looking to make your friends jealous on social media then the outdoor swimming pond is where you want to be.
- Indoor Water Slide is a one story slide that can easily accommodate 2-4 sliders and the perfect amount of speed to entertain bigger kids without terrifying toddlers. The water also happened to be the warmest making it my absolute favorite!
For parents craving solitude, there’s an adults-only spa pool area, tucked quietly away behind the wellness complex. Here, the focus is silence, nature, and stillness — the kind of peace that feels almost sacred when you’ve spent all morning chasing toddlers around.

The Spa and Sauna Area: Luxury Reimagined for Parents
Most family resorts have a spa. Moar Gut’s spa, however, feels like a spiritual retreat. It’s carved into the landscape, featuring stone, wood, and glass that blur the lines between indoors and outdoors.
I booked a 60-minute kid-friendly session and enjoyed a back massage and brief facial with my daughter. The therapists were trained in holistic alpine techniques using organic Austrian products. It was her first time at a luxury spa and it was magical!
The sauna world includes multiple saunas (Finnish, herbal, infrared), a steam bath, ice fountain, and quiet relaxation zones. The first section is textile required and features a sauna and infrared room, further into the complex it is textile optional. There’s even a “wellness library” where you can curl up with a tea and admire the mountains through floor-to-ceiling glass. This quickly became my favorite place to spend early evenings!
Parents can book treatments during childcare hours — the staff coordinate schedules seamlessly.

Outdoor Play Areas and Adventure Zones
If you’re picturing a basic swing set and sandbox, think again. Moar Gut’s playgrounds and adventure zones look like something out of a Scandinavian design magazine — natural wood structures, rope bridges, tunnels, and zip lines blending organically into the landscape.
The highlight for our kids was the small animal petting zoo. Families can adopt a pet for the week at the childcare center and they will provide you with feed for your animal and a certificate of care at the end of your trip. My kids raced downstairs each morning to feed their bunny Lottie and couldn’t wait to say goodnight to her at the end of the day.
Each morning, children can help the staff with farm chores — collecting eggs, brushing the horses, or gathering vegetables for the kitchen. It’s hands-on, wholesome, and grounding, a welcome antidote to screen-heavy modern life.

Sports and Adventures for All Ages
Moar Gut leans into its alpine setting with an impressive roster of outdoor adventures, many of which are included or easily arranged through the concierge.
During our stay, we tried:
- Hiking: Dozens of family-friendly trails start right from the property. Some lead to mountain huts serving homemade schnitzel and apple strudel.
- E-Biking: The resort rents premium e-bikes, child seats, trailers, and even kid-sized mountain bikes. The electric assist makes steep climbs accessible for all fitness levels.
- Rock Climbing and Archery: Families can sign up to book the rock climbing wall or archery set in one hour blocks. Moar Gut provides everything you need and the reservation system ensure a private experience.
- Horseback Riding: Moar Gut’s stables are immaculate. Beginners can enjoy short pony rides, while experienced riders can join guided treks through alpine meadows.
- Winter Activities: Though we visited in summer, the resort transforms in winter into a snow paradise — with skiing, sledding, and horse-drawn sleigh rides right from the door.
For parents, there’s also a small fitness studio, daily yoga sessions, and guided wellness hikes. Everything encourages balance — adventure, nature, and restoration.

The Trampoline Park and Arcade
When the weather turns, the fun continues indoors. There are two arcade spaces offering interactive games, table tennis, and board games. And a massive indoor trampoline park where kids can bounce and navigate obstacle courses until they are ready for bed!
The best part? The kids burn energy, and you can sip wine by the nearby lounge fireplace knowing everyone’s content.

The Kinderhof
I’ll give you the full run down on the kids club below but wanted to mention that even if you don’t utilize the kid’s club, you are free to utilize the parent-plus kinderhof space. This includes a one story slide into a golden ball pit, climbing net, track with scooters, and so many more thoughtful toys. This space is designed for parents to accompany their children and is separated from the childcare center for safety.
There is also a building workshop and art room that families can book for private experiences.

Included Childcare: The Heart of the Moar Gut Experience
Every Moar Gut review eventually reaches this point — the moment of disbelief that childcare this good actually exists.
Moar Gut’s Kinderhof (children’s farm and club) is at the core of its philosophy. The childcare program is included in the room rate, runs from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., and is staffed by certified, multilingual professionals who genuinely love kids.
Tailored Care by Age Group
Children are grouped by developmental stage:
- Baby Club (0–3 years) – Gentle supervision, naps, bottle prep, and age-appropriate play in a peaceful space filled with soft textures and natural light.
- Mini Club (3–6 years) – Hands-on nature crafts, farm visits, baking classes, and sensory play.
- Kids Club (6–10 years) – Outdoor adventures, pony grooming, treasure hunts, and creative workshops.
- Teen Zone (10–15 years) – Sports tournaments, movie nights, and mountain excursions — enough independence to feel grown-up, but safely structured.
As an American parent used to “kids clubs” that amount to TV and crayons, I was blown away. Each day had a printed schedule of themed activities, like “Little Farmers Morning” or “Forest Detectives Afternoon.”
The Care Itself Feels Personal
The caregivers know each child’s name, personality, and preferences within hours. When we picked up our kids after the first afternoon, the staff not only remembered their names — they told us what they’d eaten, what they’d drawn, and how they interacted with other children.
There’s a secure check-in/out system, and kids wear small color-coded bracelets so staff can easily recognize them by group. It’s all done with warmth and professionalism.
Parent Freedom Without Guilt
Because the childcare is so immersive, you never feel guilty taking adult time. That balance is the true luxury of Moar Gut — not just the amenities, but the freedom to enjoy them fully.
what if we don’t use the childcare, is staying worth it?
We used the kids’ club for one day, primarily for the purposes of this review because I knew it would be a huge draw for most readers. However, my career is quite demanding meaning I’m not always the most available when I’m not on PTO. When I travel with my children a huge draw is to spend time with them. I didn’t feel like we were missing out at all by not using the service more for a few reasons: 1) I loved a lot of the kid friendly activities like rock climbing, archery, and petting bunnies, 2) even the more basic kid activities like swimming involved stellar views, and 3) Moar Gut has designed all of the adult friendly activities to accommodate your kids while somehow remaining luxurious and relaxing.
Dining: The Full-Board Indulgence Worth Every Calorie
Let’s get one thing straight: Moar Gut is not a buffet-resort kind of place. The food here is culinary art wrapped in family accessibility.
Your stay includes full board, which means breakfast, lunch, afternoon cake hour, and dinner are all included in the rate. Yet each meal feels curated, local, and lovingly prepared — no corners cut.
Breakfast and dinner are eaten at your family’s assigned table, where you will eat for the duration of your stay, while lunch is free choice.
Breakfast: A Morning Feast with a View
Breakfast is served in the sunlit main dining room overlooking the mountains. The buffet is a dream for both foodies and picky eaters. Expect:
- Fresh breads from the local bakery
- Homemade jams, alpine honey, and nut butters
- Local cheeses and charcuterie
- Organic eggs cooked to order
- Juice bar with fresh fruit and vegetables
- Separate kids’ section with cereals, yogurts, and mini pancakes
I loved sipping cappuccino while watching the cows graze outside the window — a quintessential Austrian morning moment.
Lunch: Light but Delicious
Lunches are casual but never boring. Each day featured a menu of seasonal dishes — think roasted vegetable lasagna, grilled fish, or traditional Austrian dumplings — alongside a self-serve salad bar.
For kids, there’s always something simple yet wholesome: soups, pasta, and fruit. If your family is out exploring during lunch hours, the kitchen can prepare picnic packs — sandwiches, fruit, and treats wrapped neatly to take on your adventure.
Cake Hour: A Ritual You’ll Miss at Home
Every afternoon around 3:00 p.m., Moar Gut serves a rotating selection of cakes, pastries, and tortes, alongside espresso and teas. It’s called “cake hour,” and it’s pure bliss.
Our family would gather on the terrace after a hike, still in dusty boots, to share slices of apricot cake and sacher torte. The kids would run to the trampoline park afterward while we lingered over cappuccinos. It’s a small daily ritual that embodies the Moar Gut spirit — simple, beautiful, and slow.
Dinner: Elevated Dining with Family Comfort
Evenings at Moar Gut are something special. Dinner is a multi-course affair, blending fine dining with relaxed service. Parents can savor beautifully plated dishes while kids enjoy thoughtfully prepared mini versions of the same cuisine.
Highlights from our stay included:
- Pumpkin risotto with alpine herbs
- Grilled trout with lemon butter and local greens
- Veal schnitzel (a family favorite)
- Homemade pastas with foraged mushrooms
- Dessert tastings of mousse, fruit, and sorbet
Vegetarian, vegan, and allergy-friendly options are always available, and the kitchen gladly customizes dishes for kids. The wine list focuses on Austrian and Italian selections, and the sommelier is happy to recommend pairings even for casual diners.
There’s a separate children’s dining room for supervised meals during the kids’ club evening hours — allowing parents to enjoy a peaceful, grown-up dinner while the children dine and play nearby.
There is also a cheese room where you will find a selection of artisanal cheeses, charcuterie, jams, and fruit. This quickly became my favorite room in all of Moar Gut.
By the end of the stay, my husband joked that we’d never again find “family dining” this good — and he’s right. This Moar Gut review can’t overstate how rare it is to combine gourmet cuisine with true family-friendliness.
Our experience: The food at Moar Gut was absolutely fantastic. Towards the end of our stay I was having such a hard time deciding which entree to select for dinner that our waitress recommended I get both! That’s right, Moar Gut is so focused on fantastic service that she happily plated two halfsized portions for me so I could say I tried everything.

How Long to Stay: The Perfect Duration for Bliss
After five days, I can confidently say that 4–5 nights is the sweet spot.
Here’s why:
- The first day is arrival and orientation — you’ll want to settle in and explore.
- The next three days are for pure enjoyment: activities, spa, and relaxation.
- The final day is bittersweet — enough time to squeeze in one last bike ride or swim before checkout.
Less than four nights might feel rushed; more than six might feel a bit redundant unless you’re using Moar Gut as a base for exploring nearby Salzburg or Hallstatt.
Because childcare, meals, and activities are all included, a longer stay never feels repetitive — but if you’re an American family flying in, I’d recommend pairing Moar Gut with another Austrian destination to round out your trip.

Who Should Go: Families Seeking Balance and Beauty
This Moar Gut review is written for families like ours — parents who crave adventure, appreciate design and luxury, but refuse to leave the kids behind.
- Ideal for: Families with kids aged 0–12.
- Great for: Multi-generational groups (grandparents love it too).
- Still fun for teens: Yes! There’s archery, e-biking, climbing, and even movie nights. While we don’t have teens yet we did see quite a few on property even though the resort on a whole seems more geared to younger children.
If your idea of vacation bliss is sipping coffee on a mountain-view balcony while your kids gleefully feed ponies nearby — this is your place.

The Cons: Because No Hotel Is Perfect
Even paradise has quirks, and in fairness to readers, this Moar Gut review wouldn’t be complete without mentioning them.
- Flies – Being in a mountain valley with farms nearby, there are flies in summer. I wouldn’t have been so bothered by the flies if the hotel managed them better. This sounds crazy but bring your own table fan to keep flies away from your dinner. The hotel does not provide any and we were not the only family struggling to enjoy meals while swatting away dozens of flies.
- Remoteness – Its seclusion is part of the magic, but also a challenge. We went to the Dolomites from Moar Gut and the drive, while beautiful, was not for the faint of heart. We used a driver and tipped extremely well because it was a full day of adventure for him.
- Brief Arrival Tour – Upon check-in, the hotel offers a quick property overview. It’s friendly but fast, and you might miss some amenities (like the hidden yoga deck) unless you explore on your own. They also don’t do the best job of telling you everything you can sign up for. For instance, I only knew we could adopt a pet because of their website and that was a huge draw for our family.
These are minor issues, easily outweighed by the overwhelming positives.
Final Thoughts: A Once-in-a-Lifetime Family Escape
When I think back on our time at Moar Gut, I remember laughter echoing from the trampoline park, the smell of pine after a mountain rain, and the quiet joy of watching my children fall asleep in their cozy bunk beds while the sun set over the Alps.
This Moar Gut review isn’t just about a luxury hotel — it’s about the rare gift of presence. Moar Gut creates the conditions for families to truly reconnect: no logistics, no guilt, no chaos. Just connection, comfort, and curiosity.
Would I fly across the world solely to stay here again? Probably not. But if we find ourselves anywhere near Austria in the future, Moar Gut will be the first name on our list. It’s the kind of place that leaves an imprint — a reminder that luxury isn’t marble or chandeliers, but time well spent with the people you love most. And I do recommend that everyone fly to Austria to stay here at least once before your kids are grown up!
For adventurous, travel-loving parents who want the best of both worlds — Familien Natur Resort Moar Gut is the unicorn. A place where kids can be wild, parents can rest, and everyone feels utterly at home.
If this Moar Gut review inspires even one family to take the leap, pack the kids, and rediscover the joy of family travel — then mission accomplished.
Can’t make it to Austria this year? Brasada Ranch is my pick for the closest thing to a kinderhotel in the United States.
