How We Selected the Best Luxury Hotels in Park City
There are so many to chose from! Luckily, I am a professional researcher with a discerning eye so I spent some time scouring the internet and visiting properties so you don’t have to. Some of the qualities I was looking for in an outstanding luxury family hotel include:
- Consistent Reviews. It’s a shame when a hotel’s reputation and level of service decline. It’s even worse when a tourist gets sucked into staying at one of those hotels based on their past reviews. I like to plot out the average score of reviews across many years to make sure they are stable or increasing. That’s a professional researcher for you!
- Luxury Amenities. Key amenities are going to differ by traveler and family but we look for extras that differentiate 5-star hotels from 4-star hotels. This includes things like a dedicated concierge for booking activities, an on-site spa, highly ranked on-site restaurants, free shuttle service, free activity gear, and daily turn down service.
- Family Friendly Entertainment. It’s one thing to be a great luxury hotel, it’s another to be family friendly! Typical amenities we find in 5-star hotels include world class outdoor pools, daily s’mores nights, movie nights and movie theaters, on-site arcades, on-site bowling alleys, hotel pets, and kids clubs.
- Family Friendly Suites or Apartment Style Rooms. For us, a luxury hotel needs to have large suites to be truly family friendly. Multi-room suites with kitchens are even better!
- Impeccable Service. Luxury hotels truly go above and beyond. I always scour reviews and rate my own experience based on how helpful and responsive front desk staff is.
Where to Stay: The Best Luxury Hotels in Park City
Now to the good stuff! Where should you stay for your Park City adventure. Note: these are all world-class ski resorts but they offer so much for families who don’t ski, like us! We trend more towards spending time at the world-class spas, fine dining restaurants, and outdoor activities like snowshoeing in winter and hiking in other seasons.
Montage Deer Valley
The epitome of luxury, the Montage Deer Valley is our favorite Park City luxury resort. Nestled into the Wasatch Mountains, this luxury family friendly hotel feels like it is in another world while still being a quick 20-minute drive down to Main Street. While a little further from town than some of the other recommendations on this list, you’ll be rewarded with exceptional mountain views!
The Details
This ski-in and ski-out access resort has so much more to offer than skiing! Guests can enjoy mountain biking, archery, and guided hikes. Looking for a little adult time? Drop your kids off at Paintbox and head to my personal favorite place at the Montage Deer Valley, the spa!
At the Montage Deer Valley, even the spa is family friendly. From 3-5pm each day the spa has family hours so that kids can enjoy the heated indoor pool and hot tub. Parents will love the view from the hot tub where there are floor to ceiling windows and stunning views of the valley below. Once the family hours are over head outdoors to the two heated outdoor pools and hot tub.
In need of a little indoor entertainment? Head to the basement and play at the free arcade or book a lane for some bowling (not free!). You can even grab dinner from the casual on-site restaurant while you bowl. The pizzas were delicious! Once you are done head outside for a gourmet marshmallow bar full of different flavored marshmallows and hot chocolate.
More of What We loved
The service level at the Montage Deer Valley is really not to be beat. In addition to the daily turn down service with filtered watered and chocolate truffles, the front desk sent up a birthday cake with room service after hearing one of my children say we were celebrating my birthday. They also went out of their way to make sure my kids could meet the live in Bernese Mountain Dog, Monty, after we missed his usual meet and greet.
Guests at the Montage Deer Valley can choose between oversized guests rooms (600 square feet!) or upgrade to a one or two bedroom suite. Some of the suites come with high end kitchens which are perfect for families who want to cook their own meal for picky children. Rooms also come with a gas fireplace making the stay truly feel like a home away from home.
The Montage Deer Valley was one of the most luxurious hotels we’ve ever stayed at, it is truly an unforgettable experience!
Waldorf Astoria Park City
Another amazing luxury family resort in Park City is Waldorf Astoria Park City. Located across the street from Canyons Village, guests can access more than 7,300 skiable acres on 300 trails from the Frostwood Gondola. Main Street is just a quick 10-minute drive from the hotel as well. But you honestly may never want to leave with so many luxury amenities.
The Waldorf Astoria Park City has a variety of muti-bedroom suites that guests can choose from. However, room size is generally smaller than the Montage Deer Valley. While you will get separation, you won’t have quite as much space to spread out.
What the Waldorf Astoria Park City lacks in room size in makes up for in service. The front desk staff go above and beyond to make sure guests feel welcome and that their every need is met. The Ski Valet in particular really goes above and beyond to take care of guests.
After a long day of skiing or hiking head back to the Waldorf Astoria to enjoy the heated outdoor pool or family friendly hot tub. You can even take turns ditching the kids to relax in the adults only hot tub for a little extra relaxation. If you are feeling truly indulgent, spend the afternoon in the 16,000 on-site spa.
The Waldorf Astoria is definitely deserving of a spot on our list of the best luxury hotels in Park City.
Goldener Hirsch
Part of Auberge resorts collection, Goldener Hirsch takes luxury to a whole new level. The 68-guest room hotel offers standard guest rooms, suites, and larger residences making it perfect for families looking for a luxury homebase. At nearly 700 square feet, the one bedroom suite is perfect for families looking for extra space during their hotel stay.
Easily my favorite place at the resort, the rooftop outdoor heated pool offers breathtaking views of the Wasatch Mountains. If you are looking for more adventure, Goldener Hirsch offers a truly unique experience: dog sledding. While portions of the ride involve getting out and hiking, kids are able to stay in the sled making this an exceptionally unique and memorable family friendly experience. Looking for a more low key activity? Bavarian pretzel making is my pick for a wonderful (and delicious!) indoor activity!
Deer Valley Ski Resort ski lifts are just steps away from Goldener Hirsch. Guests of Goldener Hirsch can make use of the Goldener Ski Club which includes complementary valet parking, a ski locker, personalized ski concierge services, and ski storage directly at the Silver Lake Village lifts at the Deer Valley Resort.
Goldener Hirsch is located just 10 minutes from the heart of Park City making it one of the best places to stay for a Park City vacation.
Stein Erikson Lodge Deer Valley
The closest to downtown Park City, the Stein Erikson Lodge Deer Valley is located just an 8 minutes’ drive from town. Making it another great option for your luxury family vacation in Park City. This charming Norwegian-style lodge is a well positioned and well appointed ski lodge.
Kids will love the Champions Club Entertainment Center, a 3,500 square feet game room with a casual bar menu and enough games to keep the young and old entertained.
Always a good idea, the Stein Erikson Lodge Deer Valley has a 23,000 square foot 16-room on-site spa. Grab one of the plush bathrobes and book yourself a day of ultimate relaxation. Fortunately, the Stein Erikson Lodge offers babysitting services so you can enjoy your relaxation time knowing your children are well cared for.
Like many of the other Park City hotels on this list, Stein Erikson Lodge Deer Valley offers ski valet services. Looking for a special experience? Guests of Stein Erikson Lodge Deer Valley can ski Deer Valley Ski Resort before it opens to the public through the First Tracks Ski Experience. More of an après-ski person? Me too, enjoy award-winning dining at Troll Hallen Lodge. Once you’ve had your fill of fondue, take the kids on one of the resort’s horse-drawn sleigh rides.
Thought a hotel was missing from our list of best luxury hotels in Park City?
Wondering why we didn’t include the St. Regis Deer Valley in our list of best luxury hotels in Park City? Consistency. After combing through reviews and graphing them by year it was clear that the St. Regis Deer Valley’s reputation has diminished in recent years. Complaints are primarily that the hotel is showing its age and is need a massive facelift.
Note: reviews are entirely my own but some photographs are curtesy of hotel websites. I can never keep a hotel room that clean once my kids get a hold of it! Links within the post are affiliate and I may receive a small commission if you book a stay, thank you for supporting the blog.
